Piute County Court Record Requests
Two online doors open most Piute County searches. Utah Courts Xchange carries the public case history for District and Justice Court matters, and it sells District Court documents that were filed electronically since July 1, 2010. An eligible party gets a better deal through MyCourtCase, which is free for that person's own case history, filed papers, payments, notifications, and linked matters.
- Identify Junction District Court or Piute County Justice Court and note the case number.
- Record the document title, filing date, party, and requested date range.
- Check Xchange or MyCourtCase when the record fits those systems.
- Call 435-577-2840 for an older file, paper record, certified copy, or unclear custodian.
- Send the official written form when the clerk requires a formal request.
- Use the separate Utah request channel for hearing audio or a transcript.
You can use Xchange without paying at most District Court locations and at the Utah State Law Library. Call ahead, though. Piute County grants court access by schedule only, so a walk-in trip may go to waste.
Three Piute County Record Layers
A search result is not always the record you need. Utah splits the public view of a case into layers, and each layer serves a different purpose. Naming the layer up front keeps a paid online summary from being mistaken for an official stamped copy of the court record.
| Layer | What it provides | Access path |
|---|---|---|
| Docket or case history | Chronological filings, hearings, proceedings, judgments, and status | Xchange, MyCourtCase for eligible parties, or clerk |
| Filed document | Complaint, petition, answer, motion, order, judgment, return, or minute entry | Xchange when offered or direct clerk request |
| Certified copy | A copy carrying the clerk's certification for official use | Clerk request plus certification and page fees |
The official Xchange help page lays out the case summary and extended history fields that appear in Piute County public court records.

Those field guides stop at the online record. For a certified copy, the local clerk remains the source.
Kinds of Court Records
Sixth District Court records cover felonies, class A misdemeanors, civil suits, domestic relations, probate, and other general-jurisdiction matters. Piute County Justice Court dockets are narrower. They hold traffic, infractions, local ordinances, many class B and C misdemeanors, and small claims. Juvenile Court files sit behind restricted access rules.
A public file may contain pleadings, motions, orders, judgments, returns of service, minutes, and available exhibits. Xchange adds participant data, assigned judges, attorneys, charges, accounting, hearings, and outcomes where those fields are public. Not every county record is a court record, though. The Recorder's land records are separate government holdings. A town council's minutes are too. Neither becomes a Piute County court case record just by mentioning a dispute or official act.
Before filing a request, run a Piute County docket search. Confirm the right case and court first. That lookup narrows the record request to the office that actually holds the file.
Piute County Record Form
Utah supplies a standard paper for this. The Utah Request for a Record form asks you to direct the request to a court or judiciary office. It also asks you to describe the material with reasonable specificity. Separate boxes cover inspecting records versus receiving copies. Inspection costs nothing. Copies and research can trigger fees under Rule 4-202.08.
Fill in a name, mailing address, daytime phone, date, signature, case number if known, and a precise description of the record. The form leaves room to explain entitlement to nonpublic material. You can attach authorization there too. Narrow fee-waiver choices and an expedited-response request tied to public benefit or another valid basis round it out. Plan on up to ten business days for a decision. Piute's official pages publish no local email, fax, drop-box, card, check, or mail instructions for these court requests. Confirm submission and payment with the courthouse rather than guessing.
Court Records: What They Contain
Think of the public case history as a field-based summary. It names the court and case number. Type, filing date, parties, attorneys, judge, status, and the sequence of proceedings appear there too. The filed document goes further. It carries the actual text of a pleading or order. Sensitive identifiers should be redacted from public filings before they reach the docket.
| Case identity | Court location, case number, case type, and filing date. |
|---|---|
| Participants | Public party roles, attorney appearances, and assigned judge. |
| Proceedings | Dated filings, hearings, minute entries, orders, and other case events. |
| Disposition | Outcome or judgment code when one has been entered and is public. |
| Documents | Electronic images offered for purchase or papers requested from the clerk. |
An entry title is just a label. It does not reproduce the full order, so request the underlying document when exact wording matters.
MyCourtCase for Piute Filings
MyCourtCase serves a different audience than public Xchange. An eligible party gets free access to that person's own cases. Documents, payments, filing status, and notifications come with it. It is not a guest name-search tool for the public. Eligibility and case type decide what appears.
The official MyCourtCase interface shows the free party-access route and its case-history functions.

Use MyCourtCase only for your own eligible Piute County file. Need a general public court record? Xchange or the clerk is the right channel.
Utah eFiling is a third thing entirely. Attorneys and registered filers transmit papers through it into court systems. The eFiling login is not the public record search. Don't confuse the two.
Copy Fees and Certification
Utah's statewide fee rules control the published amounts for copies and certification. Ask the local court to calculate the total first, because research labor, media, certification, and page counts can all change the charge.
| Record service | Published amount |
|---|---|
| Paper copy | $0.25 per sheet |
| Xchange document | $1 per document where available |
| Certified copy | $4 per document plus $0.50 per page |
| Exemplified copy | $6 per document plus $0.50 per page |
| FTR Cloud audio | $10 per recording |
| Electronic audio | $15 per half-day or part |
The current Utah court fee page presents the record, certification, exemplification, and transcript charges.

The statewide schedule governs. No unpublished local Piute fee sheet overrides the cited authority.
Piute County Audio Requests
A hearing recording is not an ordinary docket document. Utah treats it that way. The state runs a separate audio and transcript request interface. It serves recordings of Piute County court proceedings. Audio may not be ready until the next business day, since recordings upload nightly. A written transcript follows its own service schedule and per-page rate. The official request screen distinguishes the two products clearly.

Transcripts from the court reporter are priced by the page. Regular service costs $6 per page when you can wait 30 days. Rush work within 24 hours runs $12 per page. The ordering screen estimates a regular transcript of one court hour at roughly $250. Before you pay for anything, ask the court whether the recording is public and available. A docket minute entry only summarizes an event. The audio or a certified transcript preserves the fuller court record.
Access Rules for Court Records
UCJA Rule 4-202.03 opens public court records to anyone who asks. Not everything is public, though. Sealed, expunged, private, protected, safeguarded, and juvenile material requires an authorized process. So does anything needing a judge's order. Want to request a record in writing? Rule 4-202.04 spells out that route, and it covers denial appeals too. Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act adds wider public-record context. Judicial records still answer to court rules and orders, not just to that statute.
Classification controls. A missing public result may reflect a sealed, expunged, private, protected, or juvenile classification, not a search error.
A requester seeking nonpublic material must show the identity, authority, or court order required by the applicable rule.
The official access-rule page lays out the classifications and authorized paths that control Piute County court case records.

Redaction shields Social Security numbers, account numbers, nonparty contact details, and the full names of minors from public filings.
Older Piute County Court Files
Most Utah District Courts were on CORIS by the end of 1998. Justice Courts converted later, on their own schedules, so their electronic histories can be thinner. Xchange's public District Court documents mostly cover electronically filed records since July 1, 2010. A sparse docket search result is not proof that nothing exists. It means you should call the clerk and ask about paper or archived court records. The Piute courthouse can explain retention, pre-CORIS files, and where old archives are routed.
Municipal history follows yet another path. The Utah State Archives, for instance, keeps Kingston council minutes from 1961 through 2001 on microfilm. An earlier gap exists in that series. Those are public municipal records. They are not a court docket archive.
Note: Give the clerk a case number, the court, an approximate date, and a party name. Also name the record type to sharpen an older-file search.
Piute County Clerk Contact
Piute County splits the work. The Clerk/Auditor serves walk-in visitors. Utah Courts' CORIS and Xchange systems publish the actual court case data. Judicial Council material describes the District and Justice Courts here as co-located. They share one clerk arrangement. The county office also runs elections, licenses, budgets, and audits. Say plainly that your request is for a court record. That way it lands in the right hands.
